REGULAR MEMBERSHIP: If you have been a Seasonal Member for at least 5 years, you may apply to have your membership converted to Regular Member when spaces become available. Priority is given to those Seasonal Members who participate in Club activities, serve on committees, and volunteer for activities such as Hurricane Crew, workdays, decorating for holidays, etc. If you would like to apply for a change in status, complete the form found on the Quick Links page of the website and mail it to the Club or drop it at the front desk.

DINING ROOM MINIMUM: There are plenty of opportunities left to use your dining room minimum. You can order from the snack bar Tuesday through Sunday, or eat in the dining room Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday evening. Our tables are spaced apart to ensure social distancing; however, if you do not feel comfortable eating inside, you can have your dinner packaged for takeout. Dining room minimums expire on October 31 – so USE IT OR LOSE IT!

SNACK BAR: The Snack Bar is open Tuesday through Sunday through Labor Day. We did a quick survey on FaceBook asking if members were interested in keeping the Snack Bar open on weekends in September. The response was overwhelmingly YES! So, the snack Bar will be open from 11-2 on Saturdays and Sundays through September 27. If you have not eaten at the Snack Bar this year – you are missing out. The food is delicious, fast, hot, and very reasonably priced.

DINING ROOM OPERATIONS: For many years, the Board has worked with management to make our dining operations more financially viable. We are proud to announce that the Operations Committee working closely with our new Manager, Peter, and Food Services Manager, Garrett, have had success this summer. Even with the downturn in diners due to Covid-19, our dining room is making a profit! When you see Peter, Garrett, and the staff, be sure to thank them for their continued hard work. They are both doing an amazing job for us.

WE NEED YOUR HELP: Keeping the Club operating is a huge task. If you see something that is wearing or broken, please notify the front desk so we can get it fixed. Staff can’t be everywhere and see everything, so we need members to keep us informed. If you would like to suggest improvements, you can leave a note at the front desk and they will get the information to the appropriate committee. We are currently working on our 2020-21 Budget, so this is the time to provide input.

NEWS ~ August 17, 2020

COVID-19 UPDATE: We continue under Phase 2 until after Labor Day; therefore, there are no changes in our Covid Rules at this time. Masks are still required inside and outside between Lumina Avenue and the beach, including the gravel lot, porches, and walkways. Please continue to follow the rules so that we can remain open for our members who want to enjoy the beach.

SCHOOL’S BACK IN SESSION: Now that school has started back, we are working with reduced staff – but the dining room and snack bar will remain open on normal schedule through Labor Day. When the parking lot is empty, as it is some afternoons this time of the year, the snack bar may close early. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our students and teachers returning to school for a very different school year. Be safe!

DINING ROOM/ THIRD FLOOR RENTALS: From now through the end of the season, few rooms are rented on the 3rd floor. This is a great time for renting rooms for a few days for an end-of-summer getaway. If you would like to come for a couple of nights, call the Club office for reservations. Don’t forget you can rent rooms during the off season, as well. September and October are often the most beautiful months of the year on the beach! Also, we have plenty of room in the dining room for members to make reservations for dinner. We have tables separated by at least 6 feet and our serving line protects you from exposure to other people. If you prefer, you can order take-out meals to take home, or eat on the porch, the deck, or the pier. There are lots of options for you to use, not lose, your dining room minimum.

FLOTILLA: Wrightsville Beach has announced that the Flotilla, held on Thanksgiving weekend, will be cancelled for 2020.

FALL AND HOLIDAY PARTIES: We do not know what the fall will bring when it comes to the Governor’s Executive Orders. During Phase 2, we can have no more than 10 people inside at an event/party, but we expect that number to increase if numbers of Covid infections decrease. In the past, quite a few members have hosted holiday parties at the Club. We hope to be able to book smaller parties this year. If you are interested in booking a holiday party, call the office and get your party on the calendar. You will have to sign a contract and pay a deposit. If the Executive Orders require us to cancel a party, the deposit will be refunded.

UPCOMING MENUS:

Tuesday, August 18 – Beef or Chicken Tacos and Taco Bowls

Thursday, August 20 – Lasagna and Chicken Parmesan

Friday, August 21 – Prime Rib and Fried or Cocktail Shrimp

Monday, August 24 – Fried Chicken and BBQ Pork

Tuesday, August 25 – Beef or Chicken Tacos and Taco Bowls

Thursday, August 27 – Chicken and Dumplings or Beef Pot roast

Friday, August 28 – Fried Flounder and Grilled Shrimp

Monday, August 31 – Fried Chicken or BBQ Beef Ribs

We Are Open!

THE CLUB IS OPEN!
We have resumed normal operations. A huge thank you to the Hurricane Crew and Staff for protecting our facility prior to Isaias, and to the staff for getting us back up and running so quickly after the hurricane passed. Our member Steve Jeremias volunteered his time in the searing heat yesterday to repair the damage to our pier. Thanks, Steve!
Be sure to call for dinner reservations. Menus were posted in the last blog. Also, remember you can use your Dining Room Minimum in the snackbar. Members who are using the online ordering function of our new website have been very pleased. You must register for the site at www.hanoverseaside.club to use online ordering. Directions are posted in the blog, were sent out to members, and are on Facebook.

NEWS ~ August 4, 2020
ISAIAS:
Hurricane Isaias surprised us a little with its intensity last night. Power is out at the Club, along with most of Wrightsville Beach. Because the beach was not closed, work crews are having a more difficult time getting through traffic to make repairs. We sustained minor damage at the Club and sound side. The Club is closed while power is restored and damage is assessed. We will notify members when the Club reopens. A big thanks to our staff and the Hurricane Crew who prepared the property on Sunday. Because they took this storm seriously, we had very few problems. The Hurricane Crew is chaired this year by Dan Dawson. At this time, I do not have a list of all who helped, but please know how much we all appreciate your hard work.
SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF REGULAR MEMBERS:
The Special Called Meeting of Regular Members was held successfully in the parking lot on Saturday morning. It took a lot of hard work by a host of people to plan, organize, and run the meetnig. For the first time we structured a meeting this way, things went surprisingly well. Those present voted overwhelmingly to borrow up to $1.1 million, and to hire the contractor to begin construction of a duplex on the 605 S. Lumina property. The loan agreement has been signed and the builder anticipates breaking ground by September 1. The plan is to have our first renters next June or July. If you would like to see the plans for the duplex, click HERE. A huge thank you to the 605 S. Lumina Committee for doing a magnificent job. The committee is chaired by Board Member Armistead Boyd and includes Erny Alexander, Jake Wessell, John Cochrum, and Jim Cushing. We also need to thank our Covid Committee chaired by Ernie Alexander for helping us plan a meeting that met our Constitutional guidelines and the Governor’s Executive Orders. Ernie, President Jan Sheppard, and Board Members Elise Beall and Cher Pridgen did much of the work planning and organizing the meeting. We also appreciate our Saturday volunteers Noah Lambert, Lee Lambert, Peggy Russell, Jean Lawler, Eddie Wessell, Steve Lee, Henrietta Godwin, and Suzanne Harrell. I hate listing names of volunteers because I nearly always inadvertently leave someone out. If I did, please accept my apology and our thanks for assisting.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE:
I get a lot of positive feedback from members and thank you messages on Facebook. While I appreciate that, I am NOT the one who does the majority of the work at the HSC. You see my name because I am the one charged with communication, but it take a huge number of people to keep our Club running smoothly. The Board works very hard, along with numerous Standing Committees. This year we have needed even more help than usual because of hiring a new manager and dealing with Covid-19. One problem we have is that many times we put out a call for help, and few members respond. And it’s often the same members who volunteer over and over. Please remember, this is YOUR club and summer home. When we ask for volunteers, consider donating a few hours of your time here and there. The more we accomplish with volunteers, the less chance there is of a dues increase.
REGULAR MEMBERSHIP:
If you have been a Seasonal Member for at least 5 years and would like to become a Regular Member, there is an application form that you can complete. The application can be found HERE. When we have openings for Regular Members, we look for Seasonal Members who give back to the Club. Some things you can do to increase your chances of being chosen is to serve on Standing Committees, work on the Hurricane Crew, help with decorating for holidays and special events, come to Work Days, etc. We also want members who will attend the Annual and Special Called meetings and vote! We never know when we will have slots open for Regular Members, so get your application in so it will be ready when the time comes.
UPCOMINIG MENUS:
We are not exactly sure when meal service will resume, so be sure to call the Club for reservations early. Remember, you can use your Dining Room Minimum for take-out dinners. Just let the office know when you call that you want take-out and they can help. Also, you will let them know which entree you prefer.
Thursday, August 6 – Lasagna and Chicken Parmesan
Friday, August 7 – Fried Flounder and Fried or Cocktail Shrimp
Monday, August 10 – Fried Chicken and BBQ Pork
Tuesday, August 11 – Beef or Chicken Tacos and Taco Bowls
Thursday, August 13 – Chicken and Dumplings or Beef Pot roast
Friday, August 14 – Fried Flounder and Grilled Shrimp
Monday, August 17 – Fried Chicken or BB! Beef Ribs
Tuesday, August 18 – Beef or Chicken Tacos and Taco Bowls

NEWS ~ July 30, 2020

THE MAIN PARKING LOT WILL BE CLOSED ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 1 FROM 8:00AM UNTIL APPROXIMATELY NOON FOR THE SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF REGULAR MEMBERS. THE PARKING LOT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR BEACH ACCESS – ONLY FOR THOSE ATTENDING THE MEETING. THE GRAVEL LOT WILL BE OPEN. WE WILL OPEN THE MAIN LOT AS SOON AS THE MEETING ENDS.

SPECIAL CALLED MEETING:

In July 2019, the majority of the Regular Membership voted to remove the A-Frame damaged by Hurricane Florence and build a duplex on that lot. The Board was tasked with choosing building plans, securing financing, and finding a builder. That has been accomplished, so a Special Called Meeting for Regular Members will be held at 10:00am Saturday morning. Only two items of business can be discussed at this meeting – the contract with a builder and securing a loan to build a duplex. Check-in will begin at 9:00am. We ask that members arrive early so that we can get everyone checked in and not cause a backup in traffic on Lumina Avenue. To make check in faster, please put a piece of paper with your name and member number, large and dark, on your dash. Members will stay in their cars and listen to the meeting on their radio. Bathrooms will be available. Masks must be worn if you leave your car. More instructions will be provided when members arrive. Results of the vote will be posted at the Club, posted in the blog, and emailed to members. To view a PowerPoint presentation of the proposed duplex, click HERE. This is located on the Quick Links page of the website, near the top.

Two emails were sent to Regular Members over the past week. If you did not receive them, reach out to the office to get a copy. Or, if you are on Facebook, message Elise Wessell Beall your e-mail address and I will forward you one.

To join the club automatically and with possibly reduced initiation fee, sons and daughters must join prior to their marriage or 26th birthday, whichever comes first. Applications can be found on the Documents tab in the Member Section of hanoverseaside.com. At the present time, we are only accepting applications from children and grandchildren of current members. Sons and daughters who did not join on time and grandchildren are placed with the other applications on file for acceptance at a later date when positions become available. They will be required to pay the full initiation fee. We are NOT accepting applications for friends of members or other extended family.

BE SURE TO WEAR MASKS BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE BETWEEN LUMINA AVENUE AND THE BEACH SIDE OF THE BOARDWALK. THIS INCLUDES GRAVEL LOT, PORCHES, BOARDWALK, AND SNACK BAR. ALSO, REMEMBER TO USE ENTRANCE AND EXIT DOORS INTO THE SNACK BAR! PARENTS – MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDREN KNOW THE RULES.

Parking Passes

The Board of Directors has voted to allow members to purchase guest parking passes Monday through Friday for $10 per day. A member may purchase no more than 2 passes per day because the Covid rules limit the number of guests per member family to 2. No guest passes will be sold on Saturday, Sunday, or holidays. Remember, NO GUESTS ARE ALLOWED AT THE CLUB ON WEEKENDS. This includes children and teens. All guests must follow all rules including wearing masks. Children of members who are under 26 and do not have stickers on their cars may get a guest pass at no charge Monday through Friday. No passes will be given on weekends or holidays. When coming to the office to get parking passes, be sure to bring an ID. The staff will be checking IDs to ensure that passes are only going to members.

Member Accounts

Please keep a close watch on your HSC dining room minimum account if you are ordering meals from the dining room and/or snack bar. Since we are not taking money, all charges go on your account. You must go online at www.hanoverseaside.club, login to your account, and pay any charges that exceed your dining room minimum. Please make sure all charges are paid by the end of each month. If you have not registered for the new website, you can call the Club office to pay your account by credit card.

Room Update

We have just a few rooms available to rent for the next few weeks – through August 15. Remember, you can rent for the full week (6 nights) or shorter stays of at least 2 nights. Quite a few members are taking advantage of the shorter reservation jperiods. If you are interested, call now so that you do not lose this unusual opportunity. Once school starts there are quite a few rooms available.

Thursday, July 23 – Lasagna and Chicken Parmesan

Message to Regular Members

An e-mail will be going out to Regular Members later today/tonight concerning the meeting on August 1. If you do not receive an e-mail, contact the Club office to get them to send you a copy. Or they will have copies you can pick up there beginning tomorrow.

COVID UPDATE

The Governor has extended the current Executive Order; therefore, there are no changes in our Covid policy at this time. Please remember:

  • Masks MUST be worn inside and outside when on our property from Lumina Avenue to the ocean side of the boardwalk. This includes the gravel lot, boardwalk, porches, etc. Please do not make staff have to remind you to put on your mask. We have noticed that some members are still failing to wear a mask when walking through to the beach. The progressive discipline program, approved by the Board, will be enforced.
  • Guests are not allowed on the weekends. Each member family can have two guests on weekdays, but on weekends we are reserving the Club for members only. No guest parking passes will be given at any time.
  • Only those renting rooms are allowed on the 3rd floor, including porches. Those renting rooms are screened upon check-in and throughout the week. If you rent a room on the 3rd floor and want to have an overnight guest, have them check in through the office so that they can also be screened.
  • When space allows, members may make reservations for the dining rooms. So far, there has been space every week this summer for additional diners.
  • Members are responsible for their guests. Please make sure that if you bring a guest, they know and follow the rules.
  • Guests may NOT be on Club property without the member who sponsors them.

SPECIAL CALLED MEETING

A Special Called Meeting for Regular Members will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 10:00am at the Club for the purpose for approving the financing and builder for the 605 S. Lumina duplex. As you may remember, the majority of Regular Members chose the duplex as the preferred option for the 605 property last summer. To meet our Constitutional guidelines and the Governors Executive Order, we will have a parking lot meeting. This has been done successfully in churches and other organizations for months. Regular Members will park in the paved lot and tune into the meeting on their radio. This allows more regular members to attend without the fear of virus transmission. Prior to the meeting, informational sessions will be held at 6:30pm on July 22 and 29. For those with computer access, you will be able to log into a secure site to attend the session online. For those without access, 10 people at the time can gather in the dining room for the session. More information on the sessions will be sent to Regular Members in the next few days. Information will also be placed on the website.

ROOMS

We have rooms remaining for most of the summer season. You may rent rooms for 6 nights (Sunday through Saturday) or for shorter stays, with a minimum of 2 nights. At this time, we are not renting any rooms over Saturday night. This allows us time to do a thorough job of cleaning/disinfecting the entire facility between check-out time Saturday morning and check-in on Sunday afternoon. To make a reservation, call the front office at 910-256-2726. We have had very good reviews from those who have stayed at the Club this summer. Members and their guests are following the rules and enjoying their time at the beach. We have a wonderful staff who is going out of their way to ensure member satisfaction.

MEALS

Breakfast is being served daily at 8:00am Monday through Saturday. Evening meals are served Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 6:30. Members may make reservations to eat in the dining room or pick up a take-out meals for all meals served. Please call the front desk for reservations. Reservations must be made by 4:00pm the day before you would like to dine.

Monday, July 20 – Fried Chicken and BBQ Beef Ribs

Tuesday, July 21- Beef or Chicken Tacos or Taco Bowls

Thursday, July 23 – Lasagna and Chicken Parmesan

Friday, July 24 – Prime Rib and Grilled Shrimp

Monday, July 27 – Fried Chicken and BBQ Pork

Tuesday, July 28 – Beef of Chicken Tacos and Taco Bowls

Thursday, July 30 – Chicken and Dumplings or Beef Pot roast

Friday, July 31 – Fried Flounder and Grilled Shrimp

MEMBERSHIP

A reminder – sons and daughters must complete a Membership Application prior to their 26th birthday or their wedding, whichever comes first, in order to be guaranteed membership in the Club. If they do not apply on time, they will be added to the list of all of those waiting for admission into the Club – which is in the hundreds. Also, they will be required to pay full initiation fees regardless of how long their parents have been members. Membership Applications are located in the Member Section, Documents Tab, at www,hanoverseaside.com. Because of a backlog in applications, we are currently only accepting applications for children and grandchildren of current members.

COVID-19 UPDATE

IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH EXECUTIVE ORDER 147, THE BOARD HAS APPROVED THE FOLLOWING, EFFECTIVE JUNE 26 AT 5:00PM.

1.    Members and guests are required to wear Face Coverings on HSC property everywhere (inside and outside) between Lumina Ave and the end of the walkway at the beach end, including, but not limited to

·       porches. walkways, and stairs

·       picnic area

·       volleyball court

·       horseshoe pit

·       outdoors showers

2.    Face Coverings will only be required in the parking lot and at the sound side pier when members and guests are not able to comply with “social distancing” guidelines, i.e. closer than 6’ from anyone else.

3.    Members and guests are encouraged to comply with  EO No. 147 (wear a Face Covering or practice “social distancing”) while on the beach.

4.    Members are responsible to ensure that their guests abide by all rules of the Club including the wearing of face coverings. If a member or guest is not in compliance with wearing a face covering, they will be asked to put on a face covering.

Failure to Comply

Because of the unique danger associated with Covid-19, members and members with guests who refuse to wear a Face Covering, will be asked to leave the premises immediately. If a member fails to comply when asked to leave the premises, that member will incur an immediate seven (7) day suspension from the Club.  At this point, a member who refuses to leave the premises will be deemed as trespassing. On the second offense, a member will lose their privileges for the summer. A third offense will result in termination of membership. A member who sets foot on Club property while suspended will have their membership revoked.

All other Covid-19 rules remain in effect except those amended below. Please refer to previous blog entries (beginning on May 26) for further information.

The following rules are revised for those renting rooms on the 3rd floor:

a.    ONLY persons who are REGISTERED will be allowed on third floor or third floor porches.

b.    While in the building, except when in their room, registered guests are required to wear facemasks.

c. Members staying on the 3rd floor may NOT have guests dine with them at their table except for immediate family (parents, children, or grandchildren). Guests who are not immediate family may dine at another reserved table. Reservations for guests must be made by 4:00pm on the day prior.

ROOM RENTALS

We currently have rooms available on the 3rd floor most weeks this summer. Several weeks have multiple rooms open. This would be a great time to bring non-member guests who cannot normally get rooms during the busiest part of the season. Call the Club office to find out what is available for the remainder of the summer.

If you have a room rented, remember you must cancel at least 14 days prior to your move-in date to receive a full refund. Refunds will not be provided for late cancellations without special/unusual circumstances and require approval from the Board.

SNACK BAR

We have had rave reviews on our snack bar operation this summer. Service is fast and the food is good and hot! Remember, you can use your dining room minimum in the snack bar! Be sure to use online ordering for fast and easy service. You must register for the new website at www.hanoverseaside.club in order to place online food orders. Instructions can be found HERE. The front desk can help you register if you have problems. If you are not able to place your order online, call the Club office to place your order.

UPDATE ~ JUNE 15, 2020

COVID-19 UPDATE:

The COVID-19 Committee met on Sunday, June 15, 2020 and has approved the following changes to our Covid Policy:

  • We have several older members who no longer drive; therefore, they do not have parking stickers. They rely upon friends/family to bring them to the beach. Since we have not been issuing guest parking passes, they have not been able to use the Club. The Committee approved giving guest passes to those who bring our older, non-driving members to the beach.
  • Each member family will be allowed to bring up to 2 guests to the Club Monday through Friday. No guest parking passes will be provided. Members are responsible for ensuring that their guests know and follow all COVID-19 rules including wearing masks inside the building and social distancing. NO GUESTS WILL BE ALLOWED ON WEEKENDS.
  • Members are welcome to order from the Snack Bar for guests; however, since money does not change hands, it must be charged to the members’ accounts.
  • Guests will be allowed to dine with members in the dining room. The limit is 2 guests per family. Diners will be required to check in, have their temperature taken, and answer a few basic questions prior to entering the dining room. Masks must be worn except when eating. Reservations must be made in advance.
  • An extremely scaled down 4th of July celebration is being planned. More information will follow, but here are some basics for now.
    • Only yellow stickers will be allowed in the parking lot
    • Parking will be on a first come – first served basis. No cars will be allowed to double park. When the lot is full, members (even with a yellow sticker) will not be allowed to park until space becomes available.
    • No guests are allowed, nor will guest parking passes be issued
    • There will be no opening ceremony, pictures on the porch, parade, or games on the beach/porches. We will have some treats for the kids.
    • Modified Horseshoe and Corn Hole Tournaments will be held in the afternoon.
    • There will be no plated lunch; however, the Snack Bar will be open and able to handle large numbers of orders
