NEWS ~ JULY 31, 2021

STAFFING: As we have noted several times this summer, we have been working with a reduced staff. This is a problem EVERYWHERE! I rarely pass a business that doesn’t have a sign up saying they need workers for all shifts. Our problem has now gone from bad to worse. Our college students are leaving to go back to school, and our high school students are either back in school (non-traditional calendar) or are busy with extracurricular activities that start before school. We are in dire straits because we only have a couple of servers left and they are only available for sporadic shifts. If you know anyone looking for a part-time position, please have them contact the office immediately. We are hiring servers, a front desk attendant, and possibly a parking lot attendant. We need our servers and front desk attendant through the fall, so hours will not end on Labor Day. Please spread the word! If we are not able to find servers, we will have to severely limit snack bar hours and lower the number of dinners served each week.

ROOM AVAILABILITY: We have rooms available to rent for full weeks or partial weeks in August. You must rent for a minimum of two nights. The following rooms are available:

August 7-10: Room 12

August 7-14: Rooms 1, 2, 7

August 14-21: Rooms 1,6,10,11

August 17-21: Rooms 2, 12

August 21-28: Rooms 5-12,15

August 28-September 6: Rooms 6,7,12

September 6-11: Rooms 1, 2, 5, 6, 10-12, 15

Call the front desk to make reservations for a quick vacation before school starts!

UPCOMING MENUS/SNACK BAR: For the week of July 31-August 7, we will be serving dinners only on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. We do not have adequate staff to serve on Monday. The snack bar will be reducing weekend hours to 11-3 beginning August 7. We have had very little business after 3:00. Weekday hours will remain 11-2 for this week (excluding Monday). We are not sure about Snack Bar hours after August 9.

Tuesday, August 3 ~ Enchiladas or Bowls

Thursday, August 5 ~ Lasagna or Chicken Parmesan

Friday, August 6 ~ Fried Flounder or Fried Shrimp

SANDCASTLE CONTEST! Saturday, Aug 7, 12-2 Come get sandy and build a masterpiece! Individuals, families, and groups may sign up to participate. Judging will take place at 2:00. RSVP by Friday, August 6 at noon. All participants receive ice cream! Weather dependent. The forecast right now is 50% rain – but hopefully it will hold off until after the contest.

FULL MOON PARTY ON THE PORCH: Our last party, July 24, was very well attended and a great time was had by all. Everyone who has attended this year has been very enthusiastic about the social activities being offered. You can see a few pictures below.

The last Party on the Porch of the season will be held on Saturday, August 14 from 6-9. There will be a CASH BAR, TWO FOOD TRUCKS (First Bite and Bill’s Food Truck)! Click on the links to find out more about them. As always, children and guests are welcome! DJ Lee Pearson will be providing music. You don’t want to miss this event. Come experience what all of our members have been raving about! Please RSVP by Friday, July 23 at noon so we know how many to expect.

MERCHANDISE: We still have a supply of 22-ounce stadium cups with lids and straws in royal blue and purple. You can purchase them from the office or add one or two to your snack bar order! We also have a few khaki embroidered hats left, along with a few short and long sleeve tees. We will NOT be ordering more merchandise this year, so you better get what you want quickly! When they are gone, they are gone until next summer.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Believe it or not, it’s almost time for the annual meeting. In October we will be electing a President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer and 2 Board Members. The Nominating Committee for this year will be Brett Riggs, Chair, Elise Beall, and Jean Lawler. We will be posting updated nominating forms on the website by August 15. Please consider running for an office or the Board. We need committed Board Members who will guide us in the right direction during this time of rapid change.

STAIRWELL LIGHTS: Early in the season, the outside stairwell lights were out which made it dangerous to try to go up and down the stairs at night. The lights were replaced with LED lights which we agree are far too bright. We are working with our electrician to get them changed to something that will make it possible to see to get up and down the stairs, but not be blindingly bright. In the meantime, do NOT try to remove the lights, cut them off, or alter the timers. We will get this problem handled as quickly as possible.
