Long-time club member Marguerite Bellois died on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. She was born in Hookstown, PA on June 24, 1920, the daughter of James O and Emma Jardine Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William B Belloise, a brother John J. Smith; a sister, Esther S. Swearingen, and a sister Jean Wilson, who died alongside Marguerite, a niece Carol Austin-Ollom; and a nephew Robert S. Wilson. She is survived by 8 nieces and nephews.
Marguerite was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC, where she earned a degrees in music and education. She began her teaching career at the high school in Landis, NC, where she met her future husband, Bill Bellois. They moved to Wilmington, Bill’s hometown, where he began his dental practice and Marguerite taught at Chestnut School and Hoggard High School.
Marguerite was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and active in the ministries of the women of the church. She loved to cook and her favorite way of serving the Lord was preparing meals for her church family. Known for her beautiful voice, she was a soloist at St. Paul’s as well as St. James Episcopal in Wilmington. She was a long-time member of the Hanover Seaside Club where she and many of her best friends enjoyed time together.
