2026-2027 Nominations
Candidate for President
Dan Harris: My name is Dan Harris and I have been the president of the Hanover Seaside Club for the past three years. I became a member in 2009 when I married my wife, Angie McCorkle Harris. We have four children, Elaina, Tyler, Summer and Spencer.
I have served on a previous board as a regular board member for three years and I have served as the vice president for one year as well. I wanted to initially run as the president because I wanted to unite the board. I wanted to create a team of people that enjoyed serving the club and I wanted to help create a board that was entirely on the same page. I feel like we have had three successful years together and we are working towards incorporating transitional documents that will forever encourage other members to want to join the club board because it is laid out in plain simple terms as to what is expected of them. I never want to see another president come in and not have one clue as to what is going on or even how to run a board meeting. I will encourage each team member that is stepping down like the president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary to serve one additional month after their term to actually attend the first board meeting under the new leadership and help to guide them.
Candidate for Vice President
Calvin Lee Lane, Jr.: I am a lifelong member of the Hanover Seaside Club. My parents, Calvin and Betsy Lane joined in 1966, so I began coming to the club before I was two years old. I became a member in 1988. Although I lived away from Wilmington for nearly 34 years, my wife and I continued to return to the club with our children year after year.
After graduating from UNCW while living on Harbor Island, I began my career with Ecolab. Over the past 36 years, I have worked in multiple divisions, positions and cities. I currently serve as Vice President of Corporate and Global Accounts for the QSR division, where I lead a team of corporate account managers throughout the US.
I met my wife, Lucia, while visiting friends for a Paul Simon concert when she has attending UNC Law School. The first time she visited me in Wrightsville Beach, I drove her to the Hanover Seaside Club took her hand, walked down the boardwalk onto the beach, and said, “This is who I am.” We were married in 1992 and are blessed with three children: Chase, Calvin and Daisy. All three are now regular members and enjoy returning to the club.
Although I have lived away from Wilmington for much of the past 36 years, it has always remained a part of who I am. Recently, Lucia and I returned to Wilmington to help care for my father, who now lives with us in our new home.
I love HSC and am proud to be a member. The club holds cherished memories from my youth, and it has been equally meaningful to watch my own children play in the waves and enjoy the same sense of freedom and community that many of us experienced growing up.
I want to serve the club as a member of the board because I believe it is important to preserve its family-friendly character and unique spirit. HSC has been a safe harbor where our children could grow, laugh and play. I want to help ensure that we honor our constitution and bylaws and protect the club’s family-centered culture for future generations.
Candidate for Secretary
Valrie Horton: I was born and raised in Wilmington, NC, and spent my summers at the Hanover Seaside Club, a tradition that has shaped my life and values. As a proud fourth-generation member, I treasure the club’s rich history, especially knowing that my great-grandfather, G.F.G. Tienken, was one of the club’s founding members and appears in the iconic founding members photograph on the steps of the old clubhouse circa 1899.
After graduating from UNC Greensboro in 2003, I built my career in research and public service in the Research Triangle Park before returning home during the COVID-19 pandemic to be closer to family. Since coming back to Wilmington in 2021, I have served continuously on the Governance Committee, filled a vacant Board seat in 2022-2023, and worked alongside my cousin, Ann Hewlet Hutteman, on the club’s 125th Anniversary presentation.
In 2024, I was honored to be asked to serve as Secretary, a role I have greatly enjoyed, particularly through membership initiatives and communications improvements. I am passionate about making club information more accessible, document archival, and record management. Beyond the club, I serve on the Elks Board of Directors and the Wilmington Choral Society Board of Directors, and I volunteer with Paws Place Dog Rescue. When I’m not working or volunteering, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and my 5-year-old goldendoodle, Polly. I am deeply committed to the Hanover Seaside Club’s legacy and future and would be honored to continue serving our membership as your secretary.
Candidate for Treasurer
Laura Earnhart: I have been a member since 1992 when I married my husband, Jon Earnhart. He is a third-generation member. We moved to Wilmington 27 years ago and have loved being able to raise our 3 children here. We value our HSC membership as one of our greatest assets. I was the Secretary-Treasurer for one year and Treasurer for the past 2 years. I am a CPA and have worked in tax preparation in Wilmington for the last 12 years. I am willing to serve another year and welcome the opportunity to continue to build upon some of the efficiencies that we were able to put into place over the last 3 years.
Candidates for Board of Directors (3-year term) – 2 open positions
Tyler Wessell Gamaitoni: I am a lifelong, fifth-generation member of the Club. My late father was Phil Wessell, brother to Bo, Eddie, Jere, and Elise, and my mother, Ellen Keeter, is a current Club member. The Wessell family has been part of the Club for 128 years, making my connection to this special place both longstanding and deeply personal.
I was born in Cary, North Carolina, and spent my high school years in Virginia Beach before attending the University of Virginia (Go Hoos!). After UVA, I moved to Northern Virginia, where I spent the past 20 years (outside of a three year period living and working in Sydney, Australia).
Throughout my career, I have worked in event planning, project management, and business operations. Most recently serving as Chief of Staff to the Chief Revenue Officer at Bloomberg Industry Group in Arlington, Virginia. My professional experience has given me a strong foundation in organization, strategic planning, relationship management, and bringing people and teams together – skills I would be excited to contribute to the Club.
My family is the most important part of my life. My husband, Chris, and I have been married for 11 years and have two children, our nine year old daughter, Collins, and our six year old son, Walker.
This July, our family relocated from Northern Virginia to Wilmington to be closer to family and for my husband’s work. For years, we have looked forward to our annual week at the Club each summer, and we feel incredibly fortunate to now be local and able to enjoy the Club and the community more frequently.
I am thrilled to be living in Wilmington and especially excited for the opportunity to give back to a place that has been such a meaningful part of my family and my life for generations. I would be honored to serve on the Board and help preserve the traditions, sense of community, and special character of the Club for future generations.
Veronica Buchanan Godwin: I have called Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach home for more than 40 years and have enjoyed the Hanover Seaside Club through my husband, Charlie Godwin, whose family has been part of the Club for generations. Charlie and I have been married since 2001 and have two sons, Chase and Wade, who also enjoy the Club and its traditions. The Hanover Seaside Club has been an important part of our family’s life, providing opportunities to build lasting connections and enjoy time together.
Throughout my career, I have owned and operated local businesses, worked in nonprofit fundraising and development, and currently serve as a Commercial Risk Advisor with HUB International. I have also been actively involved in numerous community organizations and boards, helping support healthcare, hospice care, affordable housing, and other important causes in southeastern North Carolina. My professional and volunteer experiences have given me a strong appreciation for community service, collaboration, and responsible stewardship.
