HISTORY

The Hanover Seaside Club is a private, family oriented, multi-generational beach Club dedicated to providing facilities, and social and recreational activities for its members and their guests. The Club was chartered in 1898 by a group of members who were mostly born in Hannover, Germany, or descendants of those who were. The original site of the Hanover Seaside Club was located on a parcel of land donated by the New Hanover Transit Company in Carolina Beach. In the early years, members would board a steamship in downtown Wilmington to travel to Carolina Beach.   In 1906, following the construction of a railway from Wilmington to Wrightsville Beach. a second Clubhouse was built on Wrightsville Beach.  At the time, the intent was to allow members to use both properties; however, a storm in September 1906 did considerable damage to the Carolina Beach property. The Board decided to sell the property and have only one Clubhouse – on the site of the current Hanover Seaside Club in Wrightsville Beach.  In 1954 the Club sustained severe damage from Hurricane Hazel, the first Category 4 Hurricane, to strike the east coast.  A fire in December 1981 completely destroyed the Hanover Seaside Club. Plans to construct a new Clubhouse began immediately with the ground floor opening for use in the summer of 1982.  The current building, which looks very much like its predecessor, was completed and dedicated in March, 1983.  While the Club has grown and improved through the years, many of the current members are descendants of those first members who took a steamship from Wilmington to Carolina Beach to enjoy the cool ocean breezes and the hospitality offered by the Club.  The congenial family atmosphere is what members most love about the Hanover Seaside Club.  Members truly believe that the Hanover Seaside Club is their Club and summer home.

PARTY ON THE PORCH! Saturday, July 27 6:00-9:00

Come enjoy a beautiful summer night with your Club friends! Food by T’Geaux Boys Food Truck. Music by Izzy McGill!

WALKWAY: Our new(ish) walkway is beautiful and gives us extra width and the deck on the ocean. Such a great improvement but be careful – the walkway is HOT! Be sure to wear shoes/sandals/flip flops when walking over to the beach. The gate at the end is made to be hands free. You can push from both sides with a beach bag, chair, or your arm or hip.

CROSSWALK: Thanks to a lot of work by Jan Shephard, Dan Harris, and others we finally have new signage and blinking lights at the crosswalk on Waynick Blvd! On each side of the street, there is a button that you push to make the lights blink so that traffic will know someone is crossing. The parking space has been removed on the sound side so that oncoming traffic can more easily see pedestrians and the flashing light. We feel sure that this signage will improve safety for our members.

MEMBER STATUS: Are you turning 70, 75, or 80 this year? You may be eligible to move to a different membership status if you have the appropriate number of years as a member. The form to complete is under Quick Links on the website. If you completed a form in the past and checked a box that said you would like to automatically move to the next membership status when you hit the applicable age, you will still need to complete a new form for each membership status change. Our software does not have a method to automatically change membership status.

CODE FOR FIRST FLOOR DOOR: The oceanside door on the ground floor has a numerical lock. If the Club is locked, you may go to that door and enter a code to enter the downstairs. When you leave, please be sure to turn off all lights and lock up.  If you need the code, call when the office is open.

MEMBER ACCOUNTS: Many members have outstanding charges on their accounts. If you have charged meals, snack bar, or merchandise, please pay your bills! If you are registered at www.hanoverseaside.club, you can log in, click on member central, statements and click pay online. If you cannot pay online, simply call the Club office for your balance and pay with a credit card.

ROOMS: At present, there are no rooms available until the week of August 24-31. If you don’t have school children, this is a perfect time to vacation at the Club. The following rooms are available:

August 24-31 – 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15 If you stay this week, you can extend your reservation through Labor Day if you choose. You may reserve rooms for less than one week 30 days from the date of move in. There is a two-night minimum for all reservations.

BINGO: The next Bingos will be held on Wednesday August 7 and 21 at 7:00. Please come and bring a prize!

If the attendent is not on duty, go to the office. If the office is closed, put a note on the dash stating who the car belongs to along with the member’s name and number.

WORK DAY: We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came to the Work Day on Saturday. Dining Room Survey

Dining Room Survey – 2024

Dear fellow members,

We know that you care about the Hanover Seaside Club, and we all want it to be the best that it can be. The Operations Committee needs your input! We must admit that a survey has not been sent to members since 2016. To correct that situation, we have worked hard to develop a survey to collect your opinions about the dining room service. It collects your opinions about menu selections, quality, and cost of the meals. There may be other surveys in the future.

We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to share your opinions. Many of you have not eaten in the dining room recently, and we would like to know what it would take to bring you back. If you do not take the time to tell us, we will never know what you want!

The survey will close at the end of the day on Friday, May 3. Responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey link may be used by multiple times since there may be multiple members in a household. We ask that each member reply only once. The survey will take about 10-20 minutes. We know that your time is valuable, but we hope that you care enough about the Club to take 15 minutes to share your opinions. Remember the “GEICO” commercial – “15 minutes could save your club!”

Please keep in mind that much planning goes into the dining room service long before the Memorial Day – Labor Day season begins. Some plans cannot be changed for the 2024 season. We may not be able to respond to your input until following seasons. So, if you do not see immediate changes, please do not think that we didn’t hear you.

Use this link to take the survey: https://survey.zohopublic.com/zs/d7ClPL

Thank you for your input!

The Hanover Seaside Club Operations Committee
